Our 3-Step Process to Help You
Crush Your Goals

Eliminate
pain

Address Root Cause of Injury

Give you Tools to Keep the pain away

Eliminate Pain

When clients walk into our Mt. Pleasant clinic, our first step is to eliminate pain. Many of our clients are athletes ready to get back to doing what they love but are held back by pain and injury. To help them recover, we first want to eliminate pain. At a client’s evaluation session, we talk about where they experience pain, how that pain impacts both their day-to-day and athletic activities, and what their long-term goals are with physical therapy at 6:33.

Address root cause of injury

Our goal through physical therapy is to address the root cause of injury. Doing this allows our doctors of physical therapy to tailor each treatment plan to the individual, and also ensures that each client receives the care they need. Identifying the root cause of injury is important for getting on the road to recovery. When we know what caused an injury and/or pain, we can develop a more comprehensive plan to get you moving again.

Give you tools to keep the pain away

We want our clients to finish their physical therapy regimen and get back to doing what they love. This means giving you the tools to keep the pain away. After each one-on-one session at our clinic, we provide clients with exercises to do at home to continue building strength so you can cross the finish line pain-free.

Hear from our clients:

Dr. Alison has worked very patiently with me to help improve overall hip mobility and residual strength issues. Her stretches, exercises, dry needling and more have combined to dramatically improved my mobility and comfort levels. I am confident that Dr. Alison’s focused efforts and holistic approach to PT have directly impacted my running and biking efficiency resulting in a recent PR on my 9th Half Ironman!

What is performance physical therapy?

Performance physical therapy is a special approach to PT focused on taking you to the next level, rather than just healing an injury. At our clinic, this often means working with patients to eliminate pain and feel better, but also continue to build strength and capacity to be a better athlete.

We believe that physical therapy isn’t only for injury, but is a method to empower individuals to stay active, strong, and healthy. Many of our patients continue to visit the clinic after their initial treatment plan to stay “tuned up” with our monthly membership package.

Can I benefit from performance physical therapy if I’m not an athlete?

Of course! Performance physical therapy is rooted in helping people feel better to live better. While we primarily serve athletes in our clinic, we think performance physical therapy is for anyone looking to improve their quality of life.

Our story

Dr. Alison Berglund founded 6:33 Physical Therapy in 2022.

As an undergraduate Dr. Alison developed a knee injury when training for a marathon. Her medical providers, including a physical therapist, suggest she stop running because her body might not be made to run marathons. During physical therapy school, she learned about the complex systems of the body, giving her the tools to address the root cause of her injury. Since then, she has completed marathons, ultramarathons, and Ironman races.

This experience led to the creation of 6:33 Physical Therapy, a PT clinic rooted in treating each client with compassion to adequately address their injury, pain, or movement restriction. In creating her own clinic, Dr. Alison has been able to put this vision into practice, serving as a physical therapy provider and movement specialist to countless individuals in the Charleston, SC area.

With 6:33’s unique approach to physical therapy, clients have bounced back after surgery, eliminated aches and pains, and healed from injury. Many of these same clients found they were able to do things they couldn’t have imagined like complete an Ironman or do day-to-day activities without pain for the first time in years.

The growth and success of the clinic led to the addition of Dr. Matt VanSlyke to the physical therapy team in 2025.

TREATING THE ROOT CAUSE OF INJURY

At our Mt. Pleasant, SC, physical therapy clinic, we focus on treating the root cause of injury. Instead of applying easy, band-aid fixes to problems, we prioritize individualized 1-on-1 care. Getting to know our clients helps our physical therapists determine the best treatment plan for each client’s specific injury, restriction, or experience of pain.

Many patients don’t know the root cause of their pain when they enter the clinic, because the place where someone feels pain or has an injury may not be the part of the body causing the problem. By looking for the root cause, our physical therapists specialize in identifying weak areas in the body prime for strengthening. In addition, we work with athletes to correct running and lifting form to ensure better performance after leaving our clinic.

Addressing the root cause of injury isn’t just something we do; it is central to our physical therapy approach.

Physical Therapy

The main offering at our clinic is physical therapy. Our two staff physical therapists will work with individuals on holistically treating injuries and pains with compassion in mind. 6:33’s approach to physical therapy means meeting our patients where they are and working collaboratively toward a treatment plan that will be effective and makes sense for each individual’s lifestyle and goals. We offer physical therapy appointments Monday - Friday.

Strength Training

Our Prescribed Strength for Runners, designed by Dr. Alison and Dr. Matt, meets runners where they are to increase strength, move better, and prevent injury. This small-group class meets Wednesdays at 7:00 AM and Fridays at 8:00 AM.
